Essence
Gate 13 is the listener — the part of the self that holds the stories and secrets of others. It is the gate of the witness, the one to whom things are told because the holding is safe.
When this gate is defined
People tell you things. You hold them. The collection of stories is part of what you bring to the team or family. Pairs with Gate 33 in the Throat for the eventual retelling, when retelling is right.
The shadow side
Telling what should not be told. Or hoarding the stories until they sour, never letting them out at all. Misusing the trust that put the stories in your keeping.
Working with this gate
Be the keeper. The stories are for holding, with discretion about what eventually moves to the speech of 33 and what stays inside permanently. The trust is the asset; protect it.
