Essence
Gate 11 holds and sorts ideas — yours and other people's. It is the gate of conceptual reflection, the place where ideas come to rest before being passed on or released. It is not the gate that thinks them up; it is the gate that contains them.
When this gate is defined
You can hold many ideas at once without losing the thread. You sort, you compare, you pass forward what's useful. Pairs with Gate 56 for transmission into language. The process is reflective rather than generative.
The shadow side
Believing the ideas you hold are yours. They aren't necessarily — many of them passed through you on their way somewhere else. Hoarding ideas instead of releasing them.
Working with this gate
Treat 11 as a curator, not an originator. Most ideas that arrive will move on. Speak the ones that want to be spoken; let the rest go. Mental peace comes from emptying, not collecting.
